Meeting Strati 2010

France, Paris, Pierre et Marie Curie University

30 August – 2 September 2010

Strati2010 – the 4th “French” Congress on Stratigraphy ,

Website: http://paleopolis.rediris.es/STRATI2010/index.html

24 sessions are now open for submitting abstracts.

Please consider submitting an abstract in English to the session 1 dealing with magnetic susceptibility.

Session 1: Utilization of magnetic susceptibility in the sedimentary record: a tool for high-resolution stratigraphic correlation during the Phanerozoic.

Track Directors: Xavier Devleeschouwer & Laurent Riquier

Changes in the terrigenous content in sedimentary rocks is the major cause of variation in their magnetic susceptibility (MS). Minerals from land transferred to the marine environment are derived from various sources: fluvial erosion, wind-borne detritus and volcanic activity, and impact ejecta. So fluctuations in MS must be considered as a potential high-resolution stratigraphic tool to correlate sedimentary sections within a basin or even in several different basins. In 2009 the application of magnetic susceptibility to the Paleozoic succession was benefited by the launch of the IGCP 580 project titled "Application of magnetic susceptibility on Paleozoic sedimentary rocks".

1) Online submission (Deadline: 30 April 2010) Online submissions are open, you need a Username/Password! Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

Abstract in English (< 1000 words) are welcomed and will be reviewed by one of the Track Directors.

Please follow these guidelines:

- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another conference for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Track Director)

- The submission file is in Microsoft Word (.doc), (.rtf) or WordPerfect document file format.

- All URL addresses in the text (e.g., http://paleopolis.rediris.es/cg/) are activated and ready to click.

- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end

2) Publications in peer-reviewed journal. I urgently ask potential authors interested to publish their works just after the meeting (strict deadline of 20 September 2010) to consider submitting a paper in Terra Nova (Impact Factor: 1.899).

Please contact Xavier Devleeschouwer for this matter as we have the opportunity to propose several papers in one or two successively volumes.

Terra Nova is a journal with a wide audience having a broad range of interests. In addition, the journal is only dedicated to short, innovative manuscripts. This places severe constraints. It is only possible to envisage publishing thematic sets (in two issues if their quality justifies it) rather than entire special issues. All the articles will go through a full peer-review process, under the responsibility of our editorial team. Acceptance will not be guaranteed. But of course, a thematic set of papers dedicated to magnetic properties of sedimentary rocks will be original and will raise the attention of the scientific community.

So, please have a look to the Terra Nova journal and go to the following page for Author Guidelines: http://www.wiley.com/bw/submit.asp?ref=0954-4879&site=1
